Ute Pumped Storage Project at Flaming Gorge Reservoir
Client: Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation, Utah
Project: Ute Pumped Storage Project at Flaming Gorge Reservoir
NRCE assisted the Ute Indian Tribe with conceptual and early-feasibility level analyses of a pumped storage project located at Flaming Gorge Reservoir in northeast Utah. NRCE subsequently developed the preliminary permit application for the Ute Pumped Storage Project, which the Tribe filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on December 4, 2015, under FERC Project No. P-14742. In 2019, NRCE supported the Tribe in filing an application for a successive preliminary permit. During this time, NRCE assisted the Tribe in determining the environmental and resource impacts of the project, analyzed the geology and soils of the project area, investigated total project cost, and updated the projects benefit/cost analysis. NRCE will continue to support the Tribe by preparing a pre-application document that will provide FERC with detailed information about the proposed project, its potential impacts, and the Tribe’s plans for development and operation.
